Introduction
4-month old Beagle puppy is an active and curious creature that needs special attention from the side of a dog owner: well-balanced diet, enough space to release its activity and in-time veterinarian examinations should be a must.
How to take care of 4-month Beagle puppy? How does the care differ from the previous age? Today we will give answers on this issue.
Feeding
An average weight of a Beagle puppy of this age is 8.5-9 kilos, and its height is approximately 32-35 cm at the shoulder.
Slightly but surely, a dog owner should reduce food intake for its Beagle puppy from 5-7 to 4-3 times a day, besides, a portion of food should be larger than previously.
It is necessary to make a daily diet richer in proteins (60-70% against 35-50% for 2.5 months old puppy). The main source of proteins for a puppy is read and white meat that should be fed slightly boiled: soft beef, veal, mutton, turkey meat and rabbit flesh without bones.
20% of an overall diet for 4-months puppy should consist of starches. The best way to get “right” starches is to feed a dog with cereals (buckwheat, rice). 20% of a daily diet should be occupied with dairy products: curds, yoghurt, cream and milk. Bone tissues of a puppy are still developing, so, calcium intake should not be reduced at any rate.
- 7 a.m. curds with yoghurt (300-400 gr);
- 12 a.m. cereal porridge with great deal of meat products (boiled white or red meat, meat by-products) (400 gr);
- 4 p.m. curds with yoghurt (250-300 gr);
- 8 p.m. cereal porridge with great deal of meat products (boiled white or red meat, meat by-products) (400 gr);
- 10 p.m. yoghurt (200 ml) or a bone (only soft and safe one).
Health and Care
Your 4-months Beagle puppy was vaccinated in 2.5 months for the first time with revaccination in 3 months. The next immunization is planned when your puppy will be 6 months’ old.
So, at this point, you should carefully check your Beagle’s health: protect it against ticks and fleas, each month treat it against worms, clean puppy’s ears and eyes with special cleaning solutions.
How to Train a 4-Months Beagle Puppy?
Take 4-5 walks a day and do not overstrain a puppy with active games. It is still too young to undergo some special training which starts from 1 year, as a rule. You just can proceed with slightly breaking of the habit of relieving a puppy at home and do it outdoors.
Another important thing is to proceed teaching a puppy a command “stop that!”, “don’t do that!” when it is going to do something unpleasant. Also, you should consolidate other basic commands like “sit!”, “heel!”, etc.
Conclusion
4 months is the age during which a dog owner should be very responsible and responsive towards a puppy: well-balanced diet, frequent walks with moderate activity and in-time vet examinations are very important during this period! Take care of your Beagle puppy since the very beginning to make your dog sound and healthy!
