Average Beagle Pregnancy

In average, puberty in mats occurs between the ages of 7-10 months, so owners should be alert and do not miss the appropriate time.

A clear sign of estrus – swelling of the sexual loop, the presence of yellowish or bloody discharge, a change in behavior. However, do not confuse sexual maturity with a physiological.

Beagle’s body fully formed at the age of 1.5-2 years, so if you care about the health of your dog, wait for the physiological maturity. Otherwise, pregnancy can occur with complications, the offspring may be born weak, inferior and even dead. Beagles’ estrus lasts 19 to 23 days, with an interval of 5-6 months, sometimes may be every 3-4 months. It depends on the physiology of the organism.

Periods

Estrus in dogs has several periods:

  • Proestrum
  • Estrus
  • Metoestrum
  • Anestrum.

Proestrum lasts from one to eght days. During this period the dog’s body hormonal changes occur, there is the growth and maturation of follicles. Genitals became swollen and you can notice light spotting.

Estrus lasts for 6-10 days. This period is considered as the most favorable for mating due to the full maturation and release of the egg from the follicle. There have been changes in behavior, the dog becomes unruly, interested in male dogs and during the “acquaintance” they take away the tail to the side. This period is carried for mating.

Metoestrum or lull after the hunt comes from the 16th day after the onset of estrus and lasts 30-60 days. The body starts to develop progesterone, create optimal conditions for the implantation of the egg if it has been fertilized. With the onset of this period, the dog starts to keep away dogs.

Anestrus – the period of complete rest or stage of lack of sexual desire, which last from 90 to 160 days.

Symptoms

The main “symptoms” of beagle pregnancy include:

  • Increased appetite, or conversely, the absence.
  • The gradual expansion of the costal arches, abdominal enlargement.
  • Changes in the dog’s behavior. The dog becomes more relaxed and balanced.
  • Discharge from the nipple colostrum.
Advice: if you want detailed information, you can download a special calendar. It helps to view the process week by week.

    Preparation and Delivery

Deliveries begin after 58-62 days from the moment of conception. If your dog starts to deliver before these days, it is considered to be early. The hosts have to monitor the condition of the dog throughout the period.

It’s important! Pay special attention to diet and systematic care of the beagle, to protect the animal from stress, hypothermia, overheating and active games.

The temperature of the room should be warm and constant. From the 4th week, the pregnant dog should have three meals a day diet, which must be balanced and nutritious.

Since the second half of pregnancy, the dog fed to the calculation power of puppies, increasing calorie diet and vitamin value. A few days before the birth, you need to prepare a place away from radiators and drafts where the expectant mother will feel comfortable with the new baby. It will suit a large cardboard box with warm bedding or fenced area in the corner of the room.

Recommendaton: the first 2-3 days it is not necessary to show special attention to the puppies. Leave them under the care of their mother; otherwise, it may anger the mate.
