How to Groom a Beagle: Shedding and Trimming

Introduction

Beagles are hound dogs that are very positive and friendly with everybody. Their way of behaviour can be described as rather mentally stable and physically active.

This dog always gets along with people but sometimes it can hurt other animals except dogs as they consider small animals to be their prey.

In this article we are going to talk about how to groom beagles properly.

Care of Beagles

If you groom your dog correctly, you can be sure of its good health and excellent mental state. It is well-known for everybody that every dog needs to be looked after and a beagle is not an exception.

You should pay special attention to the following parts of your pet’s body:

  • hair
  • ears
  • eyes
  • teeth
  • claws.
Remember! The process of grooming beagles differs from this of other dogs and has its own requirements.

Now let’s discuss each of the parts mentioned above in detail.

Beagles’ Hair

Taking care of these dogs’ hair is very simple because they have short and wiry hair-covering. That is why here the rules are not difficult at all: you should brush and clean the hair of your pet once in a few days. Also you can use a massage mitten as one of the additional supplies.

Advice: do not bathe your dog too often. This procedure should take place at least once a month. Otherwise, the skin of your pet would peel off and even itching could appear.

Ears of Beagles

An ear is the weakest part of beagles’ body. That is why you should always examine them thoroughly for scratches or earwax in order to avoid any kind of infection.

Recommendation: to clean ears once a week with a cotton ball.

Also you can buy some special substances for cleaning in a drugstore.

You Pet’s Eyes

The eyes are the mirror of the health status of your dog. If there is a small discharge from the corners of the eyes, do not worry, it is absolutely normal. But if there is a lot of this discharge, you should take your dog to a veterinarian.

The process of cleaning the eyes is very simple: you should also use a cotton ball.

Teeth and Claws

These parts of the dog’s body also need care. Brush your dog’s teeth once a week with a special tool. It will help you to avoid dental calculus and teeth destruction.

As for claws, you should cut the tips of them when it is necessary. It would prevent claws from peeling off or breaking off.

Tips for Breeders

  • From time to time do some tests to diagnose infections or parasites that could live inside your dog. It will help you to maintain the beagle’s health at a high level.
  • Everyday walks are a very important instrument of keeping your dog fit. These dogs are very enduring and they need a lot of regular physical exercise.
  • Beagles really like swimming, so you can take it with you when you are going to a river or a lake.
