4 Months Old Beagle Puppy: Feeding, Health and Care

Introduction

4-month old Beagle puppy is an active and curious creature that needs special attention from the side of a dog owner: well-balanced diet, enough space to release its activity and in-time veterinarian examinations should be a must.

How to take care of 4-month Beagle puppy? How does the care differ from the previous age? Today we will give answers on this issue.

Feeding

An average weight of a Beagle puppy of this age is 8.5-9 kilos, and its height is approximately 32-35 cm at the shoulder.

Slightly but surely, a dog owner should reduce food intake for its Beagle puppy from 5-7 to 4-3 times a day, besides, a portion of food should be larger than previously.

It is necessary to make a daily diet richer in proteins (60-70% against 35-50% for 2.5 months old puppy). The main source of proteins for a puppy is read and white meat that should be fed slightly boiled: soft beef, veal, mutton, turkey meat and rabbit flesh without bones.

Warning! Do not feed your puppy with chicken or pork.

20% of an overall diet for 4-months puppy should consist of starches. The best way to get “right” starches is to feed a dog with cereals (buckwheat, rice). 20% of a daily diet should be occupied with dairy products: curds, yoghurt, cream and milk. Bone tissues of a puppy are still developing, so, calcium intake should not be reduced at any rate.

Advice: add special vitamins for puppies to a daily diet, since even the most well-balances diet is not able to provide a puppy with all necessary substances.
Recommendation: we want provide you with an approximate daily menu of 4-months puppy and show you how its meal should vary during a day:

  • 7 a.m. curds with yoghurt (300-400 gr);
  • 12 a.m. cereal porridge with great deal of meat products (boiled white or red meat, meat by-products) (400 gr);
  • 4 p.m. curds with yoghurt (250-300 gr);
  • 8 p.m. cereal porridge with great deal of meat products (boiled white or red meat, meat by-products) (400 gr);
  • 10 p.m. yoghurt (200 ml) or a bone (only soft and safe one).

Health and Care

Your 4-months Beagle puppy was vaccinated in 2.5 months for the first time with revaccination in 3 months. The next immunization is planned when your puppy will be 6 months’ old.

So, at this point, you should carefully check your Beagle’s health: protect it against ticks and fleas, each month treat it against worms, clean puppy’s ears and eyes with special cleaning solutions.

Be careful! If you have noticed some allergic reaction on your puppy’s skin or eyes, or your puppy do not want to eat or drink, or if its overall condition is sluggish or unhealthy – immediately visit your vet doctor. Remember, that puppies under 1 year are still have vulnerable immune system.

How to Train a 4-Months Beagle Puppy?

Take 4-5 walks a day and do not overstrain a puppy with active games. It is still too young to undergo some special training which starts from 1 year, as a rule. You just can proceed with slightly breaking of the habit of relieving a puppy at home and do it outdoors.

Another important thing is to proceed teaching a puppy a command “stop that!”, “don’t do that!” when it is going to do something unpleasant. Also, you should consolidate other basic commands like “sit!”, “heel!”, etc.
